Takeoff and reaching the target zone went flawlessly. However, we were set upon by a total of five 109's before we got to make the bombing run. Several of them hung around for a while repeatedly shooting up our bird. They took out the tail turret, port aileron, and did a lot of minor damage. It looked grim for a bit but our boys were able to damage several of them back, but none went down. We got hit by some FLAK going in that knocked out our starboard landing gear. But somehow after all that LT Dyke was able to get the bombs on target, and 60% at that. Almost worthy of a medal right there.
We turned for home and avoided anymore FLAK but encountered more fighters a couple times. First ones only did minor damage, which was more than we did to them. The next encounter SGT Firestone damaged one, but MSGT Antrim and SGT Harris blew the hell out of a 109. The only fighter we shot down, but it went down in a million pieces.
Thanks to our little friends we avoided a final encounter before making it back to base, where we somehow managed not to crash even with the starboard landing gear not working.
All in all, I'd say we got lucky our first time out. Given how many holes our bird has, things could have gone a whole lot worse.

Bomb RunOff Target Damage SW Top Turret P-Wing Root x2 Stb Tailplane x1 Control Cables x2 Bombardier O2 x1 Superficial x8 CasualtiesSgt. Harris suffered a SW, but recovered quickly and is clear to fly next mission. Peckham Points128 - 2 Days Repair Time Landing:Safe at Fayid Awards:SGT Joshua Harris - Purple Heart ♥AAR:
Takeoff and forming up went normally with no issues. On the outbound we got lucky and had most of the enemy driven off by other B-17's, but did get set upon by some 190's about halfway to the target. We didn't manage to take any of them down, and they had the courtesy of missing us. Over the target we got lucky and the enemy fighters were driven off again, but we did take some FLAK hits, mostly superficial, but it threw the bomb run off. We didn't manage to get any of the bombs on target. Those ships are harder to hit than a stationary building. Turning for home more fighters were driven off before they got to us, but then some 110's made it through. Again we were unable to stop them, one managed a small hit but one got lucky and walked it's hits right along our bird. Taking out the top turret and seriously wounding SGT Harris. Some more 109's managed to miss us and then we had clear skies most of the way home. More driven off by others. A ways out from Fayid we did see a few more 109's, and LT Dyke finally took one down. They did get some minor damage on us too before they took off. Right before landing we saw some more driven off by others, and though our controls were damaged, we managed a safe landing. Luckily SGT Harris has made a rapid recovery. Guess the wound wasn't as bad as we thought.

He was pronounced dead upon return to base. 2nd Lt. Dyke suffered a LW. Peckham Points56 - Repaired Overnight Landing:Safe at Fayid Awards:SGT Joshua Harris - 2nd Purple Heart ♥ posthumously 2LT Devin Dyke - Purple Heart ♥ AAR:This seemed like it was going to be an easy mission, and overall it mostly was. We took off and made formation fine, and met no resistance until the target. Where we took a few hits before the run, but got one of them as well. They took out our radio and Sgt. Harris's heat. But we got no FLAK and our bombs on target for 40%. As we were turning for home we got set upon by six 109's at once. Being the tail plane has it's problems. We got one of them but then took some walking hits. 2LT Dyke got a light wound, but SGT Harris took a serious wound again and was out. Sadly he was knocked out before he had a chance to tell us about his heat going out. By the time we got home he had suffered frostbite and passed away from a combination of that and the wound. We only got attacked once more right before getting back to the base, but no real damage there. We destroyed one more of them and made a safe landing. Harris was a good man, always high in spirits, even after his serious wound from the last mission. He will be missed.
