The Lost Angel was supposed to fly on Missions 26, 27, and 28; but suffered significant damage (141 Peckham Points) on Mission 27, plus had to divert to Lecce. She will be returned to the Spare Pool to undergo repairs, returning to duty on 9 May 44.

Capt. Pierce,
I'm returning the Butterfly Baby (B-17F-120BO-42-30802) after Mission #26. She only took minor damage (10PP) and should be ready within a day or two, as soon as ground crew have patched up the few holes.
Signed,
2Lt Richard Archer B17G-20BO-42-31439 509(H)BG/79SQ

6-May 1944 The 78th Flying Boxcars is requesting a spare B-24D to fulfill the role of an Assembly Ship. This aircraft just needs to be airworthy (not combat ready) as she'll be stripped of all armaments and staffed by a crew of five. Once the squadron's formation is ready and a course is set for the first outbound segment she will depart and return to base. Respectively Major R Jopp CO 78th Flying Boxcars @ crushedhat
