I was wondering why Strike Force had no kills listed and only 14 points of damage when there was 9 kills and 255 points of damage.

AFTER-ACTION REPORT
MISSION 9 - Verona, Italy
With a creak of a door in walks the the CO Major Rudy Jopp and the XO Captain Garfield.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
Major Jopp heads for the platform and begins; "On todays sortie to Verona we dropped just 31% on target, the first performance under 35% since week one of our campaign here in Italy. It certainly did not help three B24's were not able to bomb the target due to battle damage, two B-24's did not even take off and as you might have heard we lost the Louisiana Belle with all crew assumed KIA. There next of kin will be informed"
"Congrats to the Betty Anne who led the Flying Boxcars with 60% on target followed by the Morning Express with 50%. On our next mission the Island City Gal piloted by 1Ltt Thomas Van Hare has been assigned to active duty with the 78th and we expect a replacement for the Louisiana Belle as well.

78TH BOMB SQUADRON
AFTER-ACTION REPORT
MISSION 10 - Anzio, Italy
With a creak of a door in walks the the CO Major Rudy Jopp and the XO Captain Garfield.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
"Men, I know we've faced a grueling schedule. Our efforts are paying dividends with another good showing. 37% on target which destroyed a significant and irreplaceable cache of German Army supplies. We did lose the Jersey Bounce and Dark Angel who sadly exploded over target, no doubt a hit to the bomb load. We pray for 1Lt. Baker and his crew. (10 chutes were counted with the Jersey Bounce crew bailed out."
Fumbling with his newly acquired glasses which clearly annoyed the Major he continues "The Bit 'o Lace led the Flying Boxcars with 60% on target followed the Bonkers and Bama Beauty with 50%. Twenty-eight Air Medals and ten Air Medals 1st Oak Leaf were earned. The list of recipients will be posed at the canteen. Congrats to all !"
"Oh, about the canteen, our chefs recently procured about 40 chickens from local farmers who were all to willing to exchange for luxuries such as toilet paper and other items. So there will be fresh meat for tonight's supper !. Have a hardy meal as our next mission will be over the Alps into Germany. More details forthcoming".

The Major closes his briefing folder and begins to walk toward the aisle.
“Boxcars… Attention” and the assembled throng rises again.

Due to the holidays, I’ve been busy and now I’ve contacted some virus that is really sapping my strength. So forgive me because I don’t feel like sitting in front of the computer for long, writing out my After Action Reports.
In a nutshell, when I lost Gremlins Delight (I’ve already filed that AAR) I made up another bomber, A Wing and Ten Prayer’s and promptly lost it just before the bomb run. I then made up another bomber , Payload Patty and lost it due to heavy action. So, three bombers lost.
Again, because of my illness, I’m just going to give a bare threads have AAR under the mission board.
I'll create a new bomber and crew for Mission 012 and have them arrive through the proper channels soon.

We lost SIX aircraft with (18) KIA and (23) MIA). We also incurred (10) casualties."
Pausing a moment to let this sink in; "It could have been much worse as three B-24's had to limp home out of formation. We fielded (15) bombers, (8) of which bombed reached and bombed the target with an assessment of 28% on target with 13 1/3 confirmed kills. Gremlin's Delight and Bit o' Lace both led with 50% on target. As I said it was a tough day all around"

78TH BOMB SQUADRON
AFTER-ACTION REPORT
MISSION 13 - Toulon, France
With a creak of a door in walks the the CO Major Rudy Jopp and the XO Captain Garfield.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
"At ease and be seated" starts the Major. "We pounded the U-boat repair yards pretty good with 27% on target. Together with the 80th & 79th the Germans won't be menacing our convoys in the Med if they can't repair their subs" A few hoots echo the briefing room.
"We did lose the Betty Anne at sea and the US Navy is still searching for her crew. We had three aborts, the Knock Out, The Schmoo and The The Talkin' Texan due to a heat issue, an ox issue and an oil leak. I've asked the XO to have all our birds heat, ox and engines checked out before out next sortie. We are going to need them."
"Congrats to our top bombers; Betty Anne, Delayed Action and Next Objective with 40% on target. You all were credited with 12 1/2 kills. Well done." Pausing for a moment, "The Red Cross has reporting (9) of our brothers as POW (6) and deceased. Names will be posted outside the briefing room. Their next of kin have been informed."
"This still leaves (48) as MIA." Turning to his XO, Captain Garfield mimics a film camera...."Oh yes tonight at 1900 in Hanger 13 the film Meet Me in St. Louis starring Judy Garland is playing. It's a comedy I am told...but did I say Judy Garland is in it ! " Expecting a rise from the boys and getting none he closes the briefing folder and begins to walk toward the aisle.
"That's all " shouts the XO.
“Boxcars… Attention” and the assembled throng rises again.
"Dismissed!"

78TH BOMB SQUADRON
AFTER-ACTION REPORT
MISSION 14- Steyr, Austria
As the CO Major Jopp and XO Captain Garfield enters the room the chatter subsides.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
The Major heads towards the podium and gets one word out before he is interrupted by a late arrival, Lt R Solsky the pilot of the Pleasant Surprise. Clearly annoyed and looking at his watch the Major begins. “ Mr. Solsky, the briefing begins at 1800 prompt, not 1805. Next time be on time. “
A few notices the XO scribbling something in his little black book.
Continuing, “The Flying Boxcars sortied (12) B-24’s on today's mission to Steyr and a little under half had to abort mainly due to engine mechanical issues or battle damage. This is unacceptable and your XO is pressings our crew chiefs hard to get this under control. With that said, we delivered 29% on-target results with 18 1/3 credited fighter kills. Well done."
Pausing, "The Bama Beauty led the 78th with 50% on target and we lost the Sweet Routine, on loan from the bomber pool and the Black Maria who made it back to Foggia but crash landed. Ten chutes were spotted when the crew of the Sweet Routine bailed out."
Capt Garfield clears his throat.
“Ah, yes,” Maj Jopp acknowledges. “The XO has an announcement.”
Looking at a paper in his hand, the XO says, “The crews of Stupid Dragon, Bama Beauty, and Laid Back Lady all have 72 hour passes, effective 16-18 March. For those who’d like to get a change of scenery, there will be a C-47 headed to Tunis at 0600 tomorrow morning. With another returning from Tunis the evening of the 18th.” Folding the paper, Capt Garfield nods to Major Jopp as he steps back.
"Take a well earned break and don't have the XO or myself bail you out of the drunk tank" adds Major Jopp.
The Major glances over and quick-nods to his XO, who begins to walk toward the aisle. The two begin to leave.
“Boxcars… Attention” and the assembled throng rises again.

Date: 21 Mar 1944
To: Aircrew Personnel of the 78th (H) Bomb Squadron
From: Garfield, Paul, Cpt, USAAF, XO, 78th (H) Bomb Squadron
Subject: Revision of Assignment of Lead and Tail Aircraft Dated 1 Jan 1944
1) Due to there being only three crews that qualify for Lead/Tail rotations under the policy dated 1 Jan 1944, and not wishing to stress those crews to the breaking point, the aforementioned policy is hereby revised. 2) Assignment of Squadron Lead and Tail will be on the following basis: a. The aircraft with the most experienced Navigator will be assigned Lead when he 78th has Group Lead, unless said aircraft flew Lead/Tail the immediately preceding mission. In such case, Lead will fall to the next most experienced Navigator. b. The XO will fly Lead every other mission in so far as it does not violate a) above. c. On other missions, Lead will be rotated among all the aircraft of the Squadron. 3) Tail will be rotated among all the aircraft of the Squadron except that, due to flying Lead every other mission, the XO will not fly Tail. 4) If the designated Lead/Tail aircraft aborts without receiving mission credit, it also will not receive Lead/Tail credit and may be assigned again for the immediately following mission. 5) If the designated Lead/Tail aircraft aborts or is lost, the aircraft replacing them will be credited as having flown Lead/Tail for that mission. 6) This policy is effective with any mission flown by the 78th (H) squadron as of 22 Mar 1944.

MISSION 15 - Bolzano. Italy
As the CO Major Jopp and XO Captain Garfield enters the room the chatter subsides.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
"At ease !" bellows out the XO as Major Jopp opens up his file and begins... "Initial bombing indicates we dropped a whopping 35% on target at the Bolzano Marshalling Yards ! That's what I'm talkin about and sets a new record for the Flying Boxcars ! We did lose two birds, well three actually when you consider the Bones was CAT-E. She took alot of punishment. The Schmoo and the Puddle Jumper who was on their 1st mission were lost. (19) chutes were counted."
"Speaking of first mission, Staff Sgt Thomas Walton manning the Top Turret on the Delayed Action on his first mission downed and was credited with a '109 & '190" A wave of a applause quickly subsides as the briefing continues.
"The Red Cross just reported yesterday (10) of our comrades are reported to be POW's with another (7) as deceased. I regret to inform you that 1Lt Jimmy Stewart was on that list. This leaves (54) as MIA".
The Major glances over and quick-nods to his XO, who begins to walk toward the aisle. The two begin to leave.

As the CO Major Jopp and XO Captain Garfield enters the room the chatter subsides.
At the same time, Sgt Wallace bellows: “Boxcars… Attention! ” … and everyone rises.
"At ease men" starts the Major as he begins todays briefing. " Thirteen birds went up and eleven came back. Lost was the 'The Talkin' Texan and Shady Lady. Initial reports is seven chutes...maybe eight. All are MIA."
"On the subject of MIA, the Red Cross recently reported (20) members of the 78th as POW's and (7) as KIA. Even the Swiss Government reported (7) of Lt. Jennings crew in their care, rather interment. For them the war is over. A full list of names will be posted outside the Command Post".
"Now on today's mission to Skopje, this was a wild one. Three different B-24's were involved as tail-end charlie as one was lost and another dropped out of formation. This is team work ! 26% was on-target with 8 1/2 confirmed kills. The Orange Crate & the Next Objective both led the 78th with 40% on-target.
